The Worldwide Roar, formerly known as the Warwick Rowers, is a male nudity calendar that has taken on a bigger mission in its fourteen years of existence. While the calendar features naked athletes from various sports, its primary goal is to promote healthier masculinity and social progress through sport.
The Roar’s mission is to create personal routes to healthier masculinity and empower sportsmen to become advocates for equality. The project invites men from any sport anywhere to get naked in support of inclusion, LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, and better male mental health. The Roar also aims to challenge the structural racism, homophobia, misogyny, and toxicity of hegemonic masculinity.

The Roar’s methodology has been developed over more than a decade with the help of health promotion professionals and academic experts in the UK and Canada. Their work has been recognized by academics who have watched the project evolve into a health promotion and human rights initiative that enables participating sportsmen to confront their privilege, develop healthier masculinities, and become active advocates for inclusion.
The Roar invites anyone to join their movement for healthier masculinity, LGBTQ+ rights, and inclusion. Whether as a contributor in front of the camera or a supporter behind it, you can be a part of the change you want to see. Through the Roar, sportsmen everywhere can make a very visible and simple yet meaningful commitment to change by playing sport and (literally) hanging out together naked in front of the world.
The Roar’s use of male nudity may draw attention, but it is their commitment to social progress that sets them apart. As they continue to promote healthier masculinities and advocate for equality, the Roar is poised to make a meaningful impact in the world of sport and beyond.
