Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone Star in Queer Wedding Rom-Com

Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, and Kelly Marie Tran team up for The Wedding Banquet remake—where green cards meet IVF, and family drama meets a full-blown Korean wedding spectacle. 🍰💍 Will grandma buy it?

Andrew Ahn is back to shake up the rom-com world with The Wedding Banquet, a fresh take on Ang Lee’s 1993 classic—this time with an all-star cast, a queer love story, and an old-school family showdown.

The film, co-written by original screenwriter James Schamus, stars Kelly Marie Tran as Angela, Lily Gladstone as Lee, Bowen Yang as Chris, and Han Gi-chan making his English-language debut as Min. Rounding out the cast are screen legends Youn Yuh-jung and Joan Chen, bringing gravitas (and no doubt some serious disapproving side-eye) to this multicultural queer spectacle.

The plot? Angela and Lee are trying to have a baby but can’t afford another round of IVF. Enter Min, a closeted heir with family money and a visa problem. His plan? A fake wedding with Angela in exchange for IVF funds. The only hitch—his traditional Korean grandmother isn’t about to let this be a courthouse affair. What was supposed to be a quiet green card marriage spirals into a full-fledged wedding event, complete with traditional ceremonies, family pressure, and plenty of hilarious, heartfelt chaos.

The trailer teases a mix of comedy, romance, and culture-clash moments, making it clear that this remake isn’t just a retelling—it’s a reinvention. And in a world where LGBTQ stories are often filled with heartbreak, The Wedding Banquet serves up something the community deserves: joy, laughter, and a happy ending.

Hollywood’s been slowly catching up with authentic queer storytelling, and with The Wedding Banquet hitting theaters on April 18, this star-studded, culture-blending rom-com is set to be the next big LGBTQ must-watch.
