In a show of solidarity with the transgender community, country music star Zach Bryan has called out his fellow musicians for their intolerance towards transgender people. Bryan’s tweet in support of the transgender community has gone viral, with over 3.3 million views and counting.
The controversy began when Bud Light partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney for a brand promotion, which included a unique can design with Mulvaney’s face. This prompted outrage from conservatives and right-wing influencers, who called for boycotts and other measures against the beer company.
Bryan, however, took a different approach. In his tweet, he expressed his belief that insulting transgender people is completely wrong and that everyone should be able to be who they want to be. He also made reference to Travis Tritt’s 2000 single, “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive”.
Bryan’s support for the transgender community was applauded by fellow musician Jason Isbell, who is also a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. However, not all musicians were supportive of Bud Light’s inclusive messaging. Travis Tritt announced on his Twitter account that he would be deleting Anheuser-Busch products from his hospitality list due to the company’s latest advertisement featuring Mulvaney.
Kid Rock, on the other hand, took a more violent approach. In a now-deleted tweet, he posted a video of himself shooting an assault rifle at a stack of beer cases in protest of the transgender influencer’s inclusion in the marketing campaign. His extreme reaction drew criticism from many, including radio personality Howard Stern.
The controversy surrounding Bud Light’s partnership with Mulvaney highlights the ongoing struggle for transgender rights in the United States. Bryan’s show of support for the transgender community is a reminder that progress towards equality is still possible, even in a conservative industry like country music.
