Oh honey, did you catch the latest drama on Married At First Sight Australia? Our new fave villain, Tyson Gordon, is stirring up a storm with his outdated views on LGBTQ+ folks. This groom, who’s clearly living in a time warp, has sparked outrage after he made some seriously questionable comments about gay people during a pre-wedding chat. Spoiler alert: it’s not pretty.
In a jaw-dropping moment that aired in the UK on March 31, Tyson whined about how he doesn’t like when “gay guys come up to me” and lamented that he feels their sexuality is being “pushed” in his face. Seriously, Tyson? Newsflash: it’s 2026, and we’re all about love and acceptance, not your antiquated views. He went on to say, “Whatever you do behind closed doors… that’s on you guys.”

Viewers were quick to slam his comments on social media, with one user expressing concern about how someone like Tyson was even allowed on the show. Another chimed in, “What a terrible day to have ears.” And let’s not forget the fabulous comment about him being dug up from the 1820s. Ouch!
But wait, there’s more! Tyson also expressed his desire for a “submissive, feminine woman,” which raised eyebrows, especially from his on-screen bride, Stephanie. Apparently, he wasn’t thrilled about her being two years older and described her as “woke.” If that’s not a red flag, I don’t know what is.

In a twist of irony, Tyson, who’s clearly trying to channel some kind of masculine energy, praised former President Donald Trump, saying, “I reckon he’s doing a great job.” Oh, sweetie, that’s just the cherry on top of this cringe sundae.
After the backlash, Tyson told the Daily Mail that he knew he was going to be the villain of the season. “The producers told me I was going to be one of the most controversial characters they’ve ever had,” he said. Well, mission accomplished, Tyson. But let’s hope he learns a thing or two about respect along the way.

Interestingly, the current season of MAFS Australia isn’t all bad news for LGBTQ+ representation. It features bisexual bride Julia Vogl, who has voiced her frustrations about being reduced to her sexuality on the show. And let’s not forget the upcoming wedding of Chris Robinson and Sam Stanton, which is set to air on April 1. The franchise has made strides in showcasing diverse love stories, including the first-ever trans bride, Ella Morgan, in the UK version.
So, while Tyson may be stuck in the past, let’s celebrate the progress being made in the world of reality TV. MAFS Australia airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on E4, and trust me, you won’t want to miss the drama!
