From January 22 to 26, the vibrant city of Las Vegas will host the Creating Change conference, a gathering that brings together nearly 3,000 LGBTQ advocates. Emceed by journalist and Out100 honoree Tre’vell Anderson, the conference promises five days of discussions, workshops, and community-building centered around the theme “Rooted in Resistance, Power & Love.”
Speakers like Imara Jones and Frenchie Davis will join a lineup of trailblazers, addressing challenges and opportunities for the LGBTQ community. According to the Task Force President Kierra Johnson, the event emphasizes resilience and the importance of honoring the legacies of those who paved the way for today’s activists. Johnson highlighted, “We have a responsibility to continue their work, ensuring future generations inherit a world of greater equality.”

Since its inception in 1988, the Creating Change conference has been a cornerstone for LGBTQ advocacy, fostering skills development and community among queer professionals. This year’s programming includes discussions on Black leadership, democracy, and strategies for advancing LGBTQ rights globally. Notable evening events such as drag performances and a house ball underscore the celebratory spirit of the event.
Accessibility and inclusion remain key priorities, with the Task Force offering financial support to attendees. Cathy Renna, the organization’s Communications Director, reflected, “Each year, I leave inspired and more determined to fight for equity.” The event also bridges the digital divide, streaming plenaries for those unable to attend in person.
As the LGBTQ community continues to navigate an increasingly complex landscape of rights and representation, the Creating Change conference serves as both a refuge and a rallying call. The event reinforces the strength found in unity, while amplifying voices that demand justice for all.
