The LGBTQ adult film industry has lost one of its brightest stars—Roman Mercury, a 45-year-old performer with a career that spanned years and captured the attention of hundreds of thousands. His passing was initially shared by close friend and fellow performer Greg Dixxon, who took to X to break the heartbreaking news.
“With profound sadness, we share the news of @romanmercury_’s passing,” Dixxon wrote, emphasizing the impact Mercury had on the industry and those around him. “Roman left us unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of passion, talent, and kindness that touched the lives of so many.”
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Mercury had built a major following in the gay adult entertainment scene, starring in productions with major studios while also running successful fan pages. His physique, signature black armband, and undeniable on-screen presence made him a household name within the industry. But there was more to Mercury than his performances—he was a man with deep passions, a commitment to his craft, and a personal life that few got to see.
A Love Lost, A Career Soaring
According to Dixxon, Mercury had endured a personal tragedy in the past year—the loss of his husband, which deeply affected him. “Sadly, Roman’s husband passed away last year, leaving him lonely and crushed,” Dixxon revealed. Yet even through grief, Mercury kept pushing forward, building his career and maintaining his friendships. His social media presence continued to grow, and he even received his first-ever GayVN Awards nomination this year.
“Roman was persistent, intelligent, and organized,” Dixxon said. “He always had big goals and an even bigger heart.”
Despite his outward success, there were signs that something wasn’t right. Mercury reportedly mentioned feeling exhausted and was growing concerned about his medications. However, nothing suggested that his life would be cut so tragically short.

Mercury’s family later confirmed that the cause of death was hypertensive cardiovascular disease—ultimately, a heart attack. “Although his physical heart had issues, his spiritual heart always shined by helping others,” Dixxon said, expressing his belief that Mercury is now reunited with his husband.
