Bob the Drag Queen, the winner of season eight of RuPaul’s Drag Race, recently spoke about her love for wrestling and how it has impacted her as a member of the LGBTQ community. During an episode of the podcast StraightioLab, she discussed her admiration for WWE legend Dustin Rhodes, also known as Goldust.
“Wrestling is inherently kind of gay,” Bob stated. “There are some really great iconic wrestlers who spoke to my gayness as a young child. Goldust is a really great example.” Goldust, who first debuted in the WWE in 1995, was known for his flamboyant and often flirtatious demeanor, pushing the boundaries of traditional masculinity in the world of wrestling. This aspect of his character resonated with Bob and other members of the LGBTQ community, who saw themselves represented in the ring.
Bob also spoke about wrestler Mick Foley, who was known for his three alter-egos and brutal, dangerous matches. Despite his unconventional appearance, Foley is widely considered to be one of the most respected wrestlers in the business and served as an inspiration for Bob and others. “If Mick Foley can be one of the most famous entertainment athletes, then I could f**king do anything,” Bob said.
