Queer Greek photographer and filmmaker Helias Doulis has been making waves in the world of photography with his latest project, Parabyss – A Nurtured Nature. The project is a series of photographs that depict a dystopian paradise where men can show intimacy to each other without fear of discrimination or persecution.
Doulis’ photographs reflect the greed of human nature in a world that often persecutes its inhabitants through discrimination. His project provides a habitat for free sexual expression away from the eyes of disapproval in cities. The physical landscape acts as an artificial barrier between the world we live in and the world we fantasize about, creating a refuge that wholly accepts every aspect of sexuality, nature, and nurtured nature.
The concept of Parabyss is centered around an earthly vagina, a place where men can find shelter and freedom to express themselves intimately. Doulis explores the modernity of human relationships and how it grows between a metaphorical yet realistic aspect of hunger, which cannot avoid wear or death.

Doulis has been making a name for himself in the world of photography since returning to Greece in 2015 after studying Writing and Film in the United Kingdom. His first feature film, ‘The Nest,’ was semi-autobiographical, and he has since diversified his artistic expressions to include photography and fashion.
In 2018, Doulis collaborated with the iconic American fashion house Ralph Lauren, bringing a queer element to an urban landscape for the modern cowboy. He also ventured into the world of adult cinema, shooting films with the men he adored younger, taking him to Paris, London, and finally Athens.
Doulis’ latest project, ‘The Beauty of Stigma,’ is a short film that continues to explore the complex themes of human relationships and the stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ individuals.
As a freelance photographer and filmmaker based in London and Athens, Doulis is available worldwide. His unique perspective and creative vision have made him a rising star in the world of photography, and his Parabyss project is a powerful exploration of the boundaries of sexuality and the search for a nurturing environment for LGBTQ+ individuals.
