The company aims to open five restaurants across the country, with the first one set to debut in early 2025. This expansion comes after Chick-Fil-A faced significant protests from the LGBT community during its previous venture into the UK market in 2019. The outcry primarily revolved around the company founders’ staunch support for Christian groups opposing same-sex marriage.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Chick-Fil-A has undergone notable changes in recent years. In 2020, it appointed its first head of diversity and altered its approach to charitable contributions, emphasizing support for education and hunger alleviation. However, the brand’s commitment to Christian values remains unchanged, resulting in its longstanding policy of not opening restaurants on Sundays, which will also be enforced in the UK.

Joanna Symonds, Chick-Fil-A’s head of UK operations, expressed the company’s commitment to positively impacting the communities it serves. “From our earliest days, we’ve worked to positively influence the places we call home, and this will be the same for our stores in the UK,” she stated. Symonds encouraged franchise operators to collaborate with organizations that promote positive change in their local communities, all while delivering quality food and broader benefits to those they serve.
Chick-Fil-A has announced a substantial investment of over $100 million in the UK over the next decade. Most of the new locations will operate as franchises, generating between 80 and 120 job opportunities per branch. With 2,800 existing outlets in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada, the company has plans for further expansion in Europe and Asia.
