Controversial Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia stirred up a storm on social media by sharing a scripted video in which a woman dramatically tears down a classroom Pride flag. In the video, which is widely regarded as a staged skit, Greene wrote, “GOD BLESS THIS MAMA!!!!! I stand with her!!! Teachers are paid by taxpayers – the PARENTS!!! Get the LGBTQ propaganda out of the schools!”
Throughout her tenure in Congress, Greene has consistently directed her efforts towards attacking LGBTQ+ individuals, and this video was seen by many as another attempt to stoke controversy.
The video depicts a woman, donned in a cap, entering a classroom and forcefully removing a Progress Pride flag from the wall, revealing a U.S. map behind it. The “teacher,” portrayed by an older woman in a gray pantsuit, reacts with astonishment, exclaiming, “What are you doing?” The cap-woman, meanwhile, engages in incoherent shouting as she crumples the rainbow flag and disposes of it in the trash, expressing her refusal to support such initiatives with her tax dollars.
Amidst the heated exchange, the teacher insists that the flag is part of the students’ learning environment, while the cap-woman struggles with her limited command of English. This verbal confrontation unfolds, leading to the cap-woman’s eventual expulsion from the classroom.
While it became evident that the video was a staged production, Greene remained unapologetic, claiming that it accurately represented public sentiment. Despite numerous individuals pointing out the video’s falseness, Greene defended her actions, stating, “If this is a fake or a skit, it’s a very good representation of exactly how people feel.”
This incident has drawn widespread criticism, with many condemning Greene for sharing a fabricated scenario to advance her views on LGBTQ+ issues, further fueling the ongoing debate on LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance in the United States.
