Oh, the drama! Just when we thought we were on the verge of witnessing a spectacular crossover between two of our favorite queer shows, Heated Rivalry and Overcompensating, the universe threw a wrench in our plans. It turns out that the stars of the steamy hockey romance series are just too busy to make it happen. Can you believe it?
Benito Skinner, the mastermind behind the hit queer comedy Overcompensating, spilled the tea on the missed opportunity during an interview with etalk. Skinner had his sights set on casting Hudson Williams, the dreamy closeted gay hockey legend Shane Hollander from Heated Rivalry, for a role in his show’s second season. But alas, Hudson was “too busy, I think ultimately.” Talk about a heartbreak!

And it doesn’t stop there! Skinner also tried to bring back Robbie G.K., who played the beloved Riley in the first season of Overcompensating. But, of course, Robbie was also too swamped with his own commitments. “We tried to bring Riley back, Robbie G.K., who we love so much,” Skinner lamented. “But again, those boys are busy.”
It’s a real shame because fans were practically drooling at the thought of this crossover. The chemistry between the characters could have been electric! But don’t lose hope just yet. Skinner hinted that he’s determined to find a way to get both Hudson and Robbie on the show eventually. “One day there is going to be something,” he teased. Fingers crossed!
As if that wasn’t enough to keep us on the edge of our seats, Skinner also mentioned that Heated Rivalry season 2 is set to start filming on August 10, 2026. So, while we’re bummed about the crossover that never was, we can at least look forward to more of our favorite hockey boys in the near future.
In the meantime, let’s keep the conversation going about how much we need more queer crossovers in our lives. If only the stars would align, right? Until then, we’ll just have to settle for our dreams of what could have been. Stay tuned for more updates on your favorite queer shows, because you know we’ll be here to spill all the tea!
