Diet Coke Parties Take India by Storm

🍹✨ Who knew Diet Coke could be this fun? From parties to creative concoctions, India is sipping in style! 🥤💃

TL;DR

  • Diet Coke parties are trending in India.
  • Scarcity of aluminum cans has fueled creativity.
  • Gen Z is embracing non-alcoholic experiences.
  • The first party sold out with 150 attendees.
  • Health-conscious youth are replacing sugary drinks.

Who would have thought that a shortage of aluminum cans could lead to a full-blown party craze? In India, the love for Diet Coke has reached new heights as creative Gen Zers are throwing parties dedicated to their favorite fizzy drink. With the Strait of Hormuz causing a ripple effect on aluminum supplies, Diet Coke has become a hot commodity, and the youth are not taking it lying down.

Meet Ishika Gupta, a 25-year-old marketing and design consultant from New Delhi, who turned her fear of losing Diet Coke into a celebration. “It was a joke,” she said, recalling how she thought only a couple of friends would show up to her first Diet Coke party. But to her surprise, around 150 people came, all eager to sip on the elusive beverage. Gupta’s party was a hit, with attendees donning Coke-themed outfits and dancing to house and pop music. They even whipped up their own Diet Coke concoctions inspired by none other than Dua Lipa!

As Gupta put it, “We had a cocktail menu, which we like to call the Coke-tail.” And guess what? No alcohol in sight! With nearly 10% of India’s adult population being diabetic, the demand for Diet Coke and similar drinks has surged. The youth are becoming increasingly health-conscious, and Gupta noticed a shift at house parties where sugary sodas were being replaced by zero-sugar options.

Gupta’s obsession with Diet Coke led her to create an Instagram page dedicated to the drink just before the war in Iran broke out, which she humorously referred to as “some cosmic alignment.” She managed to throw a party even when the drink was sold out on various online grocery platforms. “I had no idea that a lot of people would resonate with that,” she said, reflecting on the unexpected success of her event.

In Gurugram, marketing head Shruti Sharma has been watching Gupta’s parties gain traction on social media. “Younger people now like it when there is a scarcity of something,” she noted, emphasizing how it sparks creativity and fun. The next party, hosted at the Marièta restaurant, promises to be just as exciting, with tickets priced around $16, including two cans of Diet Coke, mixers, snacks, and plenty of Coke-themed decorations.

As the party doubles as a listening session for Drake’s new album, “Iceman,” the excitement is palpable. Just like the first party, this one will also be alcohol-free, proving that sometimes, the best parties are the ones where the drinks are fizzy and the vibes are high. So, if you’re in India and love Diet Coke, get ready to pop some cans and party like there’s no tomorrow!
