Comedian NoHun, whose real name is Raurie Williams, has sparked outrage after engaging in transphobic attacks against members of the transgender community. In recent comments directed towards performer Bailey J Mills’ boyfriend, Logan Brown, who is documenting their pregnancy as a trans man, NoHun reportedly referred to the trans community as “mentally ill.”
NoHun has a history of engaging in transphobic rhetoric, having previously attacked Dylan Mulvaney for modelling a Nike sports bra and made anti-trans and anti-fat comments directed towards Sam Smith during their Gloria tour.
In response to NoHun’s latest transphobic remarks, Drag Race UK star River Medway called the comments “vile, vile, vile”. Season two star Sister Sister expressed support for Bailey and Logan, while 2011 X Factor runner-up, Marcus Collins, condemned NoHun’s behavior as “rotted.”
The backlash to NoHun’s comments has resulted in several venues allegedly pulling out of his upcoming comedy tour, resulting in the influencer postponing all the dates.
NoHun rose to fame for his comedic monologue videos, and his following grew particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when he produced tongue-in-cheek tours of various areas in Birmingham. However, the comedian’s recent transphobic remarks have sparked criticism and condemnation from members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of transphobia and discrimination within the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the importance of creating a safe and inclusive space for all individuals regardless of their gender identity. The need for education and advocacy in combating transphobia cannot be overstated, and NoHun’s behavior serves as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done.
As members of the LGBTQ+ community continue to fight for equality and acceptance, it is essential to remember that every individual deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. NoHun’s transphobic attacks are not representative of the community, and it is up to all of us to stand together and reject bigotry in all its forms.
