Season 14 of the iconic British television series Doctor Who is breaking new ground by embracing the LGBTQ+ community with a stellar cast featuring multiple queer actors. Jonathan Groff, known for his roles in Frozen, Glee, and Knock at the Cabin, has been confirmed as a “mysterious guest” in the upcoming season.
A Queer Time and Space: New Doctor and Cast Members
Ncuti Gatwa, who gained fame for his portrayal of gay student Eric Effiong in Sex Education, will be taking on the titular role as the Doctor. One of his co-stars, Neil Patrick Harris, has hinted that Gatwa’s Doctor will be “the first gay Doctor.” Harris himself is set to play “the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced” in this season.
Transgender and Drag Icons Join the Adventure
Adding to the show’s LGBTQ+ representation, transgender Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney will be playing a character named Rose, a trans girl. Jinkx Monsoon, two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race and a Broadway star, is also joining the cast as a music-based villain who is described as “the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet.”

Showrunner Russell T. Davies expressed his excitement about the impressive cast, stating, “This is an incredible coup, and a great honor, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!”
