Helias Doulis, a distinguished alumnus of Writing and Film studies from the United Kingdom, has been making waves in the realms of film and photography since his return to Greece in 2015. His first significant work, the semi-autobiographical film ‘The Nest’, marked the beginning of his journey in visual storytelling. Interestingly, Doulis did not initially envision a future in photography, yet this medium soon became his chosen form of artistic expression.
A Queer Perspective in Urban Landscapes
Doulis’s series ‘Parabyss: A Nurtured Nature’ emerged as his first expressive foray in both Europe and the US. However, it was his 2018 collaboration with Ralph Lauren’s iconic American fashion house that truly showcased his innovative vision. In photographing the RRL campaign, Doulis steered away from traditional Western motifs, introducing queer elements to redefine the urban cowboy aesthetic. This unique blend of styles garnered widespread attention and acclaim.
From Adult Cinema to ‘The Beauty of Stigma’
Driven by his fascination with adult cinema, Doulis traversed cities like Paris, London, and Athens, creating films inspired by the men he admired in his youth. His latest work, the short film ‘The Beauty of Stigma’, delves into the complex layers of societal perceptions. Concurrently, Doulis is compiling material for his upcoming zine, ‘Pale Blue Nostalgia’, expected in 2022.
A Global Artistic Footprint
Based in London and Athens, Helias Doulis continues his journey as a freelance photographer and filmmaker. His work, characterized by a blend of personal narrative and groundbreaking aesthetics, is available for global engagement, continuing to push the boundaries of traditional visual storytelling.
