Elska Magazine’s latest issue transports readers to the vibrant city of Mumbai, showcasing the beauty and diversity of its local men. This edition continues the publication’s tradition of celebrating LGBTQ+ communities around the globe, previously spotlighting cities like Yokohama, Japan.

Elska’s editor and chief photographer, Liam Campbell, reflected on the magazine’s journey: “Shortly after Elska was launched, it became known for its diversity, particularly in representing different races, ages, and body types. Initially, this was not intentional. The goal was simply to visit various cities, meet local guys, and share their images and stories. However, the impact it had on readers, making them feel seen within the LGBTQ+ community, highlighted the importance of our approach. After discussions with friends in LGBTQ+ media about the underrepresentation of the South Asian community, we decided to focus our next issue on India.”

The decision to spotlight Mumbai came from a desire to amplify South Asian visibility. “Mumbai was our tenth issue, but it didn’t perform well initially, becoming our lowest seller at the time. Despite this, as Elska grew, now reaching its forty-sixth issue, I felt compelled to reissue Mumbai. While I’m unsure if it will perform better this time, the significance of South Asian representation remains crucial. I am incredibly proud of our Indian showcase, which remains one of my personal favorites,” Campbell shared.

Each portrait in this Mumbai edition is paired with personal essays from the subjects, offering a glimpse into their lives and experiences. Additionally, a companion zine, Elska Ekstra Mumbai, provides outtakes, behind-the-scenes content, and extra photos from guest contributors Mitch Cullen and Alcibiade de Paros, enriching the main issue’s narrative.
