In a heartfelt tribute to the late and beloved LGBTQ community activist, Joaquin ‘Jocko’ Fajardo, a memorial service is set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at D.C.’s Foundry United Methodist Church, located at 1500 16th St., N.W. Jocko Fajardo, a longtime resident of Washington, D.C., left an indelible mark on the city and its LGBTQ community through his unwavering commitment to equality and inclusivity.

Organizers of the event are inviting friends, family, and community members to commemorate Jocko’s vibrant spirit and his extensive involvement in various organizations. His dedication to the principles of equality and inclusivity served as a guiding light for many.
From Church to Celebration
The memorial service will commence at Foundry United Methodist Church, a visible and inclusive religious institution within the city. It will be followed by a “Post-Service Celebration of Life” at Hook Hall, a popular D.C. bar and restaurant located at 3400 Georgia Ave., N.W. This festive gathering is a fitting tribute to honor Jocko’s countless contributions to the community, offering an opportunity to raise a toast to his memory.
Remembering Jocko Fajardo
Jocko Fajardo, known for his talents as a skilled chef, florist, and event planner, passed away on July 14 at the age of 45, in his Dupont Circle residence. The cause of death was determined as hypertensive cardiovascular disease by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. In addition to his professional pursuits, Jocko actively served on the board of the D.C.-based LGBTQ youth services organization SMYAL and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington. His support for various local D.C. and LGBTQ community causes and events earned him widespread admiration.
