Pop Royalty Reunited: Madge & Elton

Madonna hugged Elton John backstage and now they might drop a track together? 🎤✨ Drama, diva, and a dash of forgiveness — the gay gods are listening. 💅

The pop diva wars might finally be over — and we didn’t even have to choose a side. Madonna and Elton John, two towering icons of queer culture, have officially called off their decades-long feud and are now teasing something we never saw coming: a musical collaboration.

On April 7, Madonna posted a heartfelt update on Instagram with a photo of her hugging Elton backstage at Saturday Night Live, saying, “We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!” But this wasn’t just a “hey, girl” moment. Madge got vulnerable, revealing that Elton was her early inspiration as a queer kid-adjacent teen in Detroit, sneaking out to see him live. “Watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different,” she wrote, adding that it “hurt” over the years to hear his public criticisms. That’s diva pain, baby — and we felt it.

The two had been trading barbs since 2002, when Elton famously called Madonna’s Bond theme Die Another Day “the worst ever,” and later accused her of lip-syncing during live shows. “That’s me off her Christmas card list,” he quipped back in 2004. And just like that, the claws were out for over two decades.

But this week, the claws were retracted. According to Madonna, she felt a pull to go see Elton perform on SNL. When she went backstage, he reportedly greeted her with “Forgive me,” and the two legends embraced. “Forgiveness is a powerful tool,” she wrote, before dropping the biggest bombshell of all: Elton had written a song for her — and wants to collaborate.

Elton then confirmed the reconciliation by resharing Madonna’s post with the caption “A healing moment, Madonna,” complete with a heart emoji. Cue the glitter tears.

Gay Pop Justice Restored

For fans in the queer community, this reconciliation is more than just a nice moment between divas. Madonna and Elton John have long been cultural pillars — not just for their music, but for what they represent. Each of them, in their own way, offered queer people visibility, flair, and a sense of rebellious pride. Their decades-long sniping wasn’t just celebrity gossip — it fractured a shared fantasy. But now, seeing them hug it out? That’s reparative justice in platform boots.

And if a new track is coming? That could be the anthem we didn’t know we needed. Imagine: a dramatic ballad about forgiveness, a dance floor smash reclaiming friendship, or even a cheeky duet roasting their own feud. The gays would lose their minds, and rightly so.

If this is the vibe 2025 is giving, we’re officially here for it. The queens are queening again — together.
