Surrey Pride Festival Delayed to 2027

Pride in Surrey is hitting pause until 2027! 😢💔 Funding cuts have put a damper on our fabulous plans. Let’s rally for our community! 🌈✨

TL;DR

  • Pride in Surrey festival postponed to 2027.
  • Funding cuts and rising costs cited as reasons.
  • All tickets for the 2026 event refunded.
  • Surrey County Council’s lack of support noted.
  • Organizers thank supporters for their understanding.

In a move that has left many in the LGBTQ+ community feeling a bit blue, Pride in Surrey has announced that its much-anticipated 2026 festival is being pushed back to 2027. The festival, originally set to take place on August 8, 2026, will now be held on September 11, 2027. The reason? Funding cuts and rising costs have made it impossible to move forward with the planned celebrations.

In an official statement released across their social media platforms, the organizers expressed their disappointment, stating, “Over recent months, rising costs and a decline in pledged corporate sponsorship have placed us in a challenging position, making it impossible to proceed with the parade and festival event.” It’s a tough pill to swallow for those who look forward to celebrating LGBTQ+ pride in their community.

The organizers have been exploring various funding options to salvage this year’s Pride and even considered different dates for 2026, but ultimately, it just wasn’t feasible. It seems that the cost of living crisis is hitting harder than a drag queen’s high heel on the runway.

“This year, many Pride events across the country have faced similar cancellations, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding during this difficult time,” they added, acknowledging the broader impact of financial constraints on LGBTQ+ events nationwide.

In a twist that’s left some scratching their heads, Pride in Surrey also clarified that Surrey County Council (SCC) had nothing to do with their decision to postpone the event. “We would like to clarify that Surrey County Council made no difference to Pride in Surrey being postponed this year,” they wrote. It appears that the council hasn’t been exactly supportive, with the organizers noting that they received nothing more than an annual email stating that SCC would not be attending.

While the lack of support from local authorities is disheartening, the organizers are determined to keep the spirit of Pride alive. They’ve assured supporters that all tickets for the 2026 event have been refunded and expressed gratitude for the community’s understanding and continued support as they prepare for the 2027 celebration.
