The GLAAD Media Awards will celebrate the advocacy of three prominent figures in the entertainment industry this year: Christina Aguilera, Bad Bunny, and Jeremy Pope. These individuals will be honored at the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony, which is set to take place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on March 30.
Christina Aguilera, a Grammy-winning singer, will receive the Advocate for Change Award, which is given to those who have made a significant impact on the LGBTQ+ community through their work. Past recipients of this award include Madonna and former President Bill Clinton.
Throughout her career, Aguilera has used her platform to raise awareness and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She has performed alongside LGBTQ+ artists, spoken out against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and even dedicated a song to the community in 2002. More recently, she launched a Pride collection that benefits two LGBTQ+ organizations and wrote a “Love Letter to the LGBTQ Community” for Billboard in 2017.
Bad Bunny, a Grammy-winning musician and actor, will be awarded the Vanguard Award, which recognizes allies who have made a difference in promoting acceptance and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Previous recipients of this award include Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, and Britney Spears.
Bad Bunny has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, especially in Puerto Rico, where he was born. He has shown support through his music and activism, including paying homage to a murdered trans woman and advocating for the resignation of a Puerto Rican governor with anti-LGBTQ+ attitudes.
Finally, Jeremy Pope will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which is presented to an LGBTQ+ media professional who has raised visibility and promoted acceptance for the community. Pope is an openly gay performer who has broken barriers in Broadway, television, and film. Previous recipients of this award include Laverne Cox, Ellen DeGeneres, and Melissa Etheridge.
