Tom Daley, the celebrated Olympic diver, is taking on a new challenge that goes beyond the pool. Following his recent retirement from competitive diving, Daley remains in the public eye with a mission to promote responsible drinking near water. Partnering with Malibu Rum and the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), Daley is spearheading a campaign aimed at reducing alcohol-related drowning incidents.
The statistics behind the campaign are startling: one in four drowning incidents in the UK is alcohol-related. Furthermore, recent research reveals that 62 percent of Brits admit to swimming after drinking, and a significant portion of Gen Z drinkers believe it’s acceptable to have a drink before entering the water. Daley’s involvement brings much-needed attention to these risks, leveraging his public platform to encourage safer behaviors.
In addition to spreading awareness, Malibu and RLSS UK have launched a limited-edition capsule collection of knitted apparel and accessories, with all proceeds benefiting the RLSS UK. The collection features a playful yet serious message, reminding people of the importance of water safety. Daley, known for his love of the water, emphasizes the importance of respecting its power, stating, “Stay safe and ‘Don’t Drink and Dive!'”
This campaign is more than just a public service announcement; it’s a blend of fashion, philanthropy, and life-saving advice. Daley’s continued advocacy for water safety ensures that his legacy in the spotlight is far from over, as he continues to make waves outside the competitive arena.
