Loreen is preparing for a big return to the Eurovision stage in a bid to claim the top spot once again with her new single “Tattoo”. Her victory song, “Euphoria”, has become a staple in every Pride playlist for the past decade and it seems she’s already achieved her goal with “Tattoo” becoming a hit online and in Sweden, spending four weeks at number one in the charts.
The Swedish pop star and queen of Eurovision exclusively told PinkNews via Zoom that her purpose is to create something that gives people a sense of hope, strength, and self-empowerment.
Despite the high expectations around living up to the high of her first win, Loreen is more interested in connecting with her fans than feeling the pressure of the competition. She explains that her purpose is to create something that gives people a sense of hope, strength, and self-empowerment.
Loreen has been particularly accepted, appreciated, and loved by the LGBTQ+ community. She’s headlined Pride events, seen her songs performed by countless drag queens, and even made the prestigious list of iconic women affectionately dubbed “mother” by the community. Loreen came out as bisexual in 2017 and sees sexuality as fluid, an emblem of freedom, which the LGBTQ+ community champions.
Earlier this year, she appeared on Drag Race Sverige, the new Swedish version of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and she loved it. Loreen explains that drag inspires her because it’s so beautiful, creative, and expresses happiness and pain. As a fervent campaigner, she has been vocal in support of Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country and, during 2012’s Eurovision contest, spoke out against host country Azerbaijan and its violation of civil liberties.
Loreen is excited to engage in ‘collective healing’ with her fans at Eurovision 2023. She imagines her fans and their friends and families, gathering together and popping open a bottle of wine to watch her in the final. The Eurovision queen can’t wait to connect with her fans, whether it’s through headlining gay clubs or competing in Eurovision.
