Debuting on Canadian channel OUTtv, Drag House Rules takes a cheeky, scripted approach to the drag competition genre that fans know and love. In an exclusive chat with PinkNews, Heidi opened up about her decision to join the show. “Honestly? It was a job [laughs]. It’s very important to me to be visible, especially during this time. So when I was asked to go, I was like, ‘You know what, let’s do it.’” And we’re so glad she did!

Heidi also shared her excitement about the unique format of the show. “I was really excited. Any kind of filming day, regardless of it’s scripted or not, I just love having fun on set with the crew and the people in the show.” She’s ready to bring her A-game and show off her acting chops!

But it’s not all glitz and glam. Heidi acknowledges the current challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community, saying, “We go through waves of being accepted and being like, it’s OK to be gay, and then it swings back the other way.” She’s determined to be a beacon of hope for those who may feel marginalized. “Just being able to be that. And then for some small town queer person that will see me… they can see that they can do great things and go out there and do whatever they want in the world.” Yes, queen!

As for her fellow queens, Heidi couldn’t contain her excitement about working with Angeria, a fellow southern girl. “We’re both kind of stupid and goofy and stuff,” she said, adding that she was pleasantly surprised by her chemistry with Plane Jane, whom she hadn’t met before filming.

And let’s not forget about the legendary Sherry Vine! Heidi expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with someone who paved the way for queens like her. “I want to take a second to say thank you for all that you and your generation did for us… because of what y’all did, I’m able to do what I’m doing now.” Talk about respect!

On the topic of scripted comedy, Heidi was thrilled to showcase her natural humor. “It was a lot of fun… luckily, John Mark [Hostetler] allowed us to have a little bit of freedom with it.” And we can’t wait to see her shine!

Of course, no interview would be complete without a mention of Nicki Minaj. Heidi didn’t hold back when discussing her feelings about the rapper’s controversial political stance. “We lost one. We lost ‘MAGA Minaj’, it’s so unfortunate. But at least we know where she stands now, and there we have it.” Ouch!

As the premiere of Drag House Rules approaches on May 21, 2026, we can’t help but feel the excitement in the air. Heidi N Closet is back, and she’s ready to remind the world that being loud, vibrant, and unapologetically queer is always in style. So grab your popcorn and tune in for a fabulous season ahead!
