Jodie Foster’s upcoming return to television in the fourth season of True Detective is already causing a stir amongst fans of the popular crime series. In the latest instalment, titled “True Detective: Night Country,” Foster stars as detective Liz Danvers who is investigating a string of murders in a fictional town in Alaska. The season’s trailer, recently released by Warner Bros. Discovery, hints at a potential romance between Danvers and her nemesis, detective Evangeline Navarro, played by Kali Reis.
The trailer shows the two detectives initially clashing but eventually developing a close relationship. Fans quickly picked up on a sapphic moment in the trailer where the two are seen cuddling for warmth in the bleak midwinter of Alaska. Foster’s return to television has been long-awaited, and her involvement in a same-sex romance is a welcome surprise for many of her LGBTQ+ fans.
Foster is known for her groundbreaking performances and has won two Oscars for her work in “The Accused” and “The Silence of the Lambs.” She has been married to American photographer and director, Alexandra Hedison, since 2014, and is the only openly queer woman to have won two Oscars.
The fourth season of True Detective also features other lesbian legends such as Fiona Shaw, who played Carolyn Martens in “Killing Eve,” as Rose Aguineau. The series, which has a new writer and director, Issa López, promises to deliver a dark and haunting plot as the detectives confront the darkness within themselves and unearth the truths buried beneath the eternal ice.
Fans of the series have eagerly anticipated the release of the upcoming season, shot in Iceland at the end of 2022, with no official release date yet announced. The new season will be released on Max, the new streaming service that joins together HBO Max and Discovery+.
