Kenny Goss, former partner of late pop superstar George Michael, recently shared his thoughts on the singer’s 1998 arrest in a Beverly Hills public toilet and the subsequent media attention that followed. In a Radio Times interview ahead of the Channel 4 documentary “George Michael: Outed,” Goss opened up about the event that shook their relationship and Michael’s life.
Goss recalled the day when the world’s press descended on their door, with helicopters circling above. He described how he tried to reassure Michael that everything would be okay while dealing with the media attention. Michael, who had been dating Goss since 1996, was arrested for “engaging in a lewd act,” which later transpired to be a police sting operation.
Goss admitted that he spent a considerable amount of time worrying about Michael after the arrest, fearing that he might get into trouble again. Michael was eventually fined and ordered to undertake community service for the incident. Despite the event, Michael released the music video for “Outside,” featuring men dressed as police officers kissing, police helicopters, and sexually suggestive acts in public spaces.
In the interview, Goss also revealed that Michael was a “tortured soul” and that he always made sure to remind him that he was loved. Michael passed away on Christmas Day in 2016, and rumors of an £85 million biopic about his life have been circulating since then.
George Michael: Outed will air on Channel 4 on March 6th and 7th.
