Love Island UK season 10 star Mitchel Taylor, known as Mitch, has broken his silence on accusations of making homophobic statements during a recent event for the skincare brand Space NK. These allegations also involved his fellow Love Island alum, Zachariah “Zach” Noble. In an Instagram live-stream, Taylor addressed the controversy, stating, “Over the weekend, there were a lot of accusations against me and Zach. I do want to start off by apologizing to Zach because these accusations have nothing to do with him. They are solely about me.”
Regarding the alleged homophobic claims, Taylor admitted, “I spoke to an influencer at the event and my words were, ‘I fancied you when you were straight.’ I can see how that can come across as homophobic, I’m really bad with my words sometimes.” He explained that he was nervous while meeting the person and was trying to be respectful, but his words came out wrong.
Taylor also addressed other accusations, including one where he claimed, “We are the most famous people in here.” He acknowledged that it was meant as banter but admitted it may not have been funny. Regarding the accusation of “throwing money at a homeless person,” he clarified, “I didn’t throw money.” He mentioned that he did give money but believed his gesture had been misconstrued.
Unfortunately, this incident once again associates Love Island UK contestants with alleged anti-LGBTQ sentiments. While Taylor emphasized that he did not intend his remarks to be offensive, several influencers present at the event had a different perspective. This situation underscores the need for continued awareness and education on LGBTQ issues within the entertainment industry.
