In a heartwarming twist for the holiday season, Jonathan Bennett and Vincent Rodriguez III, celebrated actors known for their prominent roles in LGBTQ+ Christmas films, are now joining forces to portray the latest gay couple to grace the screens of a Hallmark Christmas movie. Bennett, renowned for his roles in “The Christmas House” and “The Holiday Sitter,” has been a pioneer in starring in Hallmark’s first LGBTQ+-inclusive holiday films. Rodriguez III, on the other hand, is captivating audiences in the Prime Video series “With Love.”
The upcoming film, titled “Christmas on Cherry Lane,” weaves together three enchanting stories. It delves into the journey of a young couple preparing for their first child, an empty-nester couple embarking on a new chapter in life, and the heartwarming tale of Bennett and Rodriguez III, who unexpectedly find the opportunity to expand their family on Christmas Eve. This poignant addition to Hallmark’s festive lineup is poised to bring warmth and inclusivity to viewers’ holiday celebrations.
But that’s not all! Hallmark is doubling down on diversity this Christmas with an exciting lesbian romantic comedy titled “Friends & Family Christmas.” Featuring queer Canadian actor Ali Liebert and Humberly Gonzalez of “Ginny & Georgia” fame, this film explores the beloved “fake dating” trope. Daniella, portrayed by Gonzalez, opts to spend her holidays in New York with her artist friends instead of returning home to her well-meaning but overbearing parents. Amelia, portrayed by Liebert, is a talented entertainment lawyer determined to focus on her career post a broken engagement.
In a classic twist of fate, their parents set them up on a date, and reluctantly, they agree to go along with the charade for the sake of the season. However, as they immerse themselves in each other’s worlds, an unexpected connection blossoms, one deeper and more profound than either of them could have imagined.
“Christmas on Cherry Lane” is set to make its debut on Saturday, December 9 at 8/7c, while “Friends & Family Christmas” will grace our screens on Sunday, December 17 at 8/7c. This holiday season, Hallmark is unwrapping tales of love and diversity that promise to warm hearts and inspire joy for all.
