Madonna’s Biopic Dreams Dashed

Madonna’s biopic may be dead, but a Netflix series is rising from the ashes. 🎬✨ Let’s see how her iconic life unfolds on screen! #Madonna #Netflix

TL;DR

  • Madonna’s biopic was scrapped due to budget issues with Universal.
  • A new Netflix series is in development with Shawn Levy.
  • Madonna spent years developing the original film.
  • She expressed frustration over social media’s impact on mental health.
  • The new project will explore her extraordinary life.

Well, well, well, if it isn’t another twist in the saga of Madonna’s cinematic journey! The Queen of Pop herself has revealed that her long-anticipated biopic has been thrown into the dumpster, thanks to a nasty budget spat with Universal Studios. But don’t fret, fans—Madonna is already cooking up something new with Netflix, and it sounds like it could be a real showstopper.

In a candid chat with Interview magazine, the 66-year-old icon spilled the tea about her struggles. “I was supposed to make a movie about my life. I worked on my script for two years and spent two years at Universal Studios with the line producers doing budgeting and casting,” she lamented. Talk about dedication! But alas, it seems that Universal just couldn’t handle the heat when it came to the budget. “We had a falling out, me and Universal, regarding budget because I needed, I’ve had an extraordinary life. I’ve had a huge life, so I needed a big budget. You know what I mean?”

And if that wasn’t enough drama, Madonna also had to deal with the headache of her script. “That was a whole other long process, because I couldn’t use the script I had with Universal unless I bought it from them for an extortionate price, even though I wrote it,” she said. Can you believe it? The audacity! But don’t count her out just yet. Madonna is pivoting and exploring how her life story might work in a different format. “I started trying to understand how making a series would work. It’s a very, very different process,” she explained.

Now, with the help of Netflix and director Shawn Levy, Madonna is back in the game. The project is reportedly back in development, and we can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Julia Garner was set to play the Material Girl in the original film, with Madonna herself directing. But now, who knows what surprises await us in this new series?

In true Madonna fashion, she didn’t shy away from discussing the darker side of fame, particularly her feelings about social media. “We think if we look at Instagram for two hours, we’ve actually been with somebody,” she mused. “It’s mesmerising and also soul-destroying.” Sounds like she’s had enough of the virtual world’s grip on her life. “If I go on Instagram for more than 10 minutes, I get depressed, and I don’t want to go there. Why am I giving this non-existent entity power over my soul, my brain, my vision of myself, my vision of the world?” Preach, Madonna!

As she continues to navigate the choppy waters of Hollywood, one thing is for sure: Madonna is a force to be reckoned with. Time may be precious, but so is her story, and we can’t wait to see how it all plays out on our screens. Stay tuned for more updates on this fabulous journey!
