Chicken Run sequel: Non-binary actor Bella Ramsey joins the cast of Netflix’s stop-motion animated film as a brand new character, Molly. The original Chicken Run, produced by Pathé and Aardman Animations in partnership with DreamWorks Animation, was a commercial success, grossing the highest of any stop-motion animated film in history.
The sequel, titled Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, will feature a new and terrible threat to chicken-kind. The story centers on Ginger, voiced by Thandiwe Newton, and Rocky, voiced by Zachary Levi, who lead their team in breaking in to save their kind. Josie Sedgwick-Davies, Jane Horrocks, Lynn Ferguson, and Harry Potter’s Imelda Staunton and David Bradley round out the cast.
For fans of the original, the sequel promises to bring back the beloved characters, such as Babs and Mac, and add new ones, such as Molly, voiced by the non-binary star Bella Ramsey.
The release of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget later this year is highly anticipated by fans of the first film. The addition of a non-binary actor to the cast signals a growing trend towards greater inclusivity and representation in the film industry.
