The sixth annual Northampton Pride event is calling on volunteers, community groups, and performers to take part in the celebrations on July 8th. This year’s event, organized by West Northamptonshire Council’s LGBTQ+ and Allies Forum and the Northampton Pride Committee, features a parade from the town centre to the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus.
Those who wish to participate in the event have until March 12th to register their interest. David Smith, the council’s cabinet member for community safety and engagement, and regulatory services, expressed his excitement at the prospect of new faces joining in on the festivities this year. Smith believes that the event “provides an opportunity for us to come together and show that we value inclusivity and the contribution all communities make to our county”.
Previous Northampton Pride events have included the participation of local groups and organizations such as Charities Q Space and The Lowdown, as well as the NHS, East Midlands Ambulance Service, and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue. This year, the organizers hope to welcome new performers, groups, small businesses, and residents to take part in the event.
Co-chair of the LGBTQ+ Forum, Matthew Toresen, expressed his pride in representing the diverse community in West Northants and his excitement for building on the success of last year’s Pride event with an even more fantastic offer this year. Northampton Pride is a free event that relies on the support of groups and organizations in the area. Join in on the celebration of inclusivity and diversity by registering now to be a volunteer, performer, or community group participant.
