Talks of the original Mean Girls cast returning to the highly anticipated movie musical adaptation have stalled due to financial disagreements. Paramount Pictures allegedly made a “disrespectful” offer to Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, leading to the negotiations halting. The film is set to feature Renee Rapp as Regina George, Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho as Janis Sarkisian, and Angourie Rice as Cady Heron. Jaquel Spivey will also join as Damian Hubbard, and Tina Fey and Tim Meadows are set to reprise their original roles.
Fans have taken to Twitter expressing their disappointment and calling for Paramount Pictures to reconsider the offer to the original cast. One fan tweeted, “Give these ladies what they deserve, Mean Girls would be nothing without them.” Another fan stated that Paramount+ should “pay them whatever they wanted and ADD a zero because wtf…otherwise we’re canceling our paramount+ subscriptions.”
The original Mean Girls was released in 2004 and has remained a cult classic with its witty one-liners and hilarious portrayal of teenage life. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the original cast’s involvement, fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming film’s release. With Fey back as the writer and Lorne Michaels producing, it is sure to be a hit among fans new and old.
