The HIV community has a new reason to connect and learn: Positive+1, a groundbreaking social media platform, has made its debut. Tailored for people living with HIV, the app facilitates a much-needed space for education, support, and personal connections. With its innovative approach, Positive+1 aims to combat the social isolation and mental health issues prevalent in this community.
The Vision Behind Positive+1
The brainchild of Christian Mercer-Hall, Positive+1 emerged from his desire to create a supportive network for the HIV community. Mercer-Hall’s journey began with a tragedy – the loss of his barbershop and tattoo parlor to a fire. This incident pivoted his focus towards developing Positive+1, a project that took nearly a decade to come to fruition. Today, the app stands as a testament to his dedication, offering resources like educational materials, details about HIV medications, and a platform for connecting with others facing similar challenges.
A Welcome Addition to the HIV Community
David Vaughn, a consultant to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and someone living with HIV since 2004, praised the app. He highlighted the importance of such a platform in reducing stigma and fostering a sense of community. With thousands already signed up, Positive+1 is set to be a vital resource for individuals across the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K.
