The ninth season of VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race introduced us to drag superstars such as Shea Coulée and Sasha Velour and brought Ariana Grande’s “Greedy” into the limelight. Yet, before these memorable moments, the franchise’s shift from Logo to VH1 opened doors to higher budgets and the inclusion of A-list guest stars.
Enter Lady Gaga: A Tribute in Disguise
In the season’s opening episode, Lady Gaga stepped into the werkroom alongside the cast of queens. Her presence was celebrated with a runway during the first episode’s maxi challenge, where the queens had to showcase a hometown look and a Lady Gaga tribute. Season nine and All Stars 4 sensation, Farrah Moan, shined in a Gaga-inspired “Alejandro” coat. However, an expected dramatic coat tearaway didn’t materialize, leaving fans wondering.
The Unveiling of the Hidden Tale
In the backstage show Untucked, Moan, donning a striking latex bodysuit under her overcoat, confided in Gaga that she wasn’t sure if the tearaway would be “authentic to the actual look.” But, as it turns out, authenticity wasn’t the only obstacle to her theatrical reveal.
Production Meddling: The Real Blocker
Recently, commenting on a TikTok video, Farrah Moan disclosed that it was indeed production interference that hindered her from delivering a show-stopping moment on the main stage. She mentioned that her microphone, placed in her jacket, might have been damaged by the dramatic tearaway. This revelation was first shared with Gaga during Untucked, but production mandated a re-shoot to avoid the discussion of the show’s inner workings on film.
In light of this revelation, fans can only imagine how much more iconic Farrah’s season nine roast would have been with the originally intended Gaga tribute.
