Ryan O’Connell is back and ready to spill the tea in his latest memoir, “Inspiration Porn.” This gay writer is opening up about his steamy sexual escapades that helped him navigate the wild ride of an open relationship. If you thought you knew Ryan from his previous works, think again. This book is a whole new level of realness!
O’Connell, who has always kept it real as a gay man living with cerebral palsy, has a knack for turning his life experiences into relatable and entertaining narratives. His 2015 memoir, “I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves,” was adapted into a hit Netflix series, but that was just the beginning. Since then, he has starred and co-executive produced the Peacock series “Queer as Folk” and even released his debut fiction novel in 2022. Now, he’s diving deep into his personal life with “Inspiration Porn,” and trust us, you won’t want to miss it!

In this new book, O’Connell candidly shares his intimate hookups and the challenges he faced in Hollywood, all while navigating an open relationship with his boyfriend, Jonathan Parks-Ramage. “For 80 percent of the essays, I’m being railed by randoms, which is obviously what everyone wants. I’m just giving people what they want! I do genuinely hope that people walk away reading this book thinking, ‘Maybe I can get railed too!'” he quips. Talk about a bold statement!
O’Connell’s writing is unapologetically queer, breaking the mold of sanitized gay narratives that often cater to a more mainstream audience. “There’s a lot of gay books that feel sanitized to me or they’re made to appeal to women. I make gay things for gay people. I’ve always been that way. I think it’s so important to not hold back,” he asserts. And thank goodness for that!
While “Queer as Folk” was a groundbreaking show made by queer people for queer people, it was sadly canceled after just one season. O’Connell reflects on this loss, saying, “The hardest chapter for me to write was about working in Hollywood. It’s so vulnerable to talk about moments where you feel like you failed.” But he’s not bitter; he’s grateful for the opportunity it provided.
As Hollywood continues to evolve, O’Connell hopes to see more stories that reflect the diverse and complex lives of LGBTQ individuals. “That show came out only three or four years ago and Hollywood has changed so radically since then. It is a miracle that it ever got made, for real. So much of what’s getting made in Hollywood does not represent the world we’re living in today at all. I think that’s a real shame,” he laments.
Mark your calendars, because “Inspiration Porn” hits the shelves on May 26, 2026. Get ready to dive into a world of raunchy tales and heartfelt reflections from one of the most authentic voices in the LGBTQ community. You won’t want to miss this one!
