Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan offered LGBTQ+ festivalgoers a place to close out Pride Month 2026 with music, workshops, and a sense of belonging.
The festival, held in the woods of western Michigan, combined its usual performance lineup with programming that attendees said made the event feel especially welcoming to queer people. The setting was described as more than a colorful backdrop: for many, it functioned as a temporary refuge from the pressures of daily life.
Among the artists highlighted at the festival were ILLENIUM, Galantis, Cain Culto and Łaszewo. Culto, an unapologetically gay performer who grew up in a religious household in Kentucky and Florida, said the response to his work has gone beyond entertainment.
"I'm always surprised by the emotional impact that my work has on people," Culto said. "It's not just about having fun and partying. We care about impacting the world with positive change."
The festival also featured The Brainery on Main Street, which hosted panels on a range of topics. This year’s LGBTQ+ workshop was described as offering guidance to people struggling with identity and sexuality.
One speaker said the conversation carried personal weight and that sharing a coming-out journey in the room was deeply meaningful. The speaker said the experience of living openly as a gay man had been life-saving and that the warmth from participants stayed with him.
Beyond the official programming, the atmosphere itself stood out to attendees. Hugs, kandi exchanges, laughter and casual interactions between strangers helped create what some described as a restorative environment.
For queer attendees, the event reflected the value of visible, affirming spaces during Pride Month and beyond. In a period marked by hostile political rhetoric toward LGBTQ+ people, that sense of safety and community carried added significance.
Electric Forest was presented as a place to end Pride Month with celebration, connection and a brief escape from outside pressures.
