In a distressing incident that unfolded in Manchester’s Gay Village, Andreyaa Hora, a 42-year-old transgender woman, has courageously spoken out about an alleged assault she endured at the hands of a group of men. What should have been a night of enjoyment with friends took a dark turn, ultimately leading her to the police station.
Having embarked on her transition journey in 2020, Hora recounts the nightmarish encounter. She alleges that she was subjected to verbal abuse by a group of inebriated men. The situation escalated when one of them forcibly removed her wig, and another struck her with force, causing her to tumble to the ground.
“I was sobbing so much I couldn’t even speak properly,” Hora shared, describing the overwhelming emotional toll the incident took on her. She approached two passing police officers to report the assault.
Upon arriving at the police station, accompanied by a friend, Hora provided her account to the authorities. Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that they are actively investigating the incident.
In the aftermath, Hora grapples with a sense of self-blame, replaying the incident in her mind. She admits that even though she’s lived in Manchester for 13 years, she never truly feels completely safe when she’s out in the city’s LGBTQ+ spaces.
The incident has shaken her confidence in venturing out alone, highlighting the persistent challenges faced by transgender individuals in public spaces. Hora’s harrowing experience serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need to foster a safer and more inclusive environment for all members of the LGBTQ+ community.
While the night ended in trauma for Andreyaa Hora, her courage in speaking out sheds light on the importance of addressing transphobia and violence against transgender individuals within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
