Sasha Colby, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15, recently teamed up with Heidi N Closet, a contestant on the just-announced Drag Race All Stars 8, for the latest installment of MISTR’s GOT PrEP video series. The video features a consultation with Dr. Closet, who interviews Colby about her sexual preparation and protection when she goes out to tour the world. The video aims to increase awareness of PrEP and encourage people to consider it as a viable option for HIV prevention.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only 25 percent of the 1.2 million people in the United States who could benefit from PrEP actually use it. MISTR, a gay owned and operated telehealth platform, is working to increase awareness of PrEP and provide easy, discreet online access to no-cost PrEP and long-term HIV care in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
In recent years, countries like Australia and England have seen a decrease in new HIV infections thanks in part to the use of PrEP. However, some U.S. states, like Tennessee, have implemented laws to prohibit federal funding for HIV-related services, making access to PrEP more difficult for those who need it.
This is where telehealth services like MISTR come in, providing a crucial lifeline for people who might not have access to PrEP through traditional means. MISTR’s videos, like the one featuring Colby and Closet, offer informative consultations with medical professionals and help to reduce stigma around HIV prevention.
The video featuring Colby and Closet is just one in a series of consultations available on MISTR’s website. By partnering with popular drag queens like Colby and Closet, MISTR is able to reach a wider audience and spread the word about the importance of PrEP. As more people become aware of the benefits of PrEP and have easy access to it, we can work toward eliminating new HIV infections altogether.
