RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 emerged victorious as the Best Competition Series at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. In a video clip to accept the award, Jinkx Monsoon, Monét X Change, Jaida Essence Hall, and Trinity The Tuck united to address the anti-drag and anti-trans rhetoric plaguing the nation.
A Thankful Cast Highlights the Importance of Queer Voices
Monét X Change expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “Thank you so much to the over 77.5 million of you who voted for us to win the Golden Popcorn for Best Competition Show. RuPaul’s Drag Race continues to give life to and tell the story of so many queer people and queer people of color. We couldn’t be more grateful.”
Jinkx Monsoon highlighted the significance of All Stars 7, saying, “For the first time, All Stars season seven featured a cast of all winners competing together, and it was record-breaking in more ways than one. At this time, it’s so important to hear queer and trans stories from queer and trans people, to meet the artists behind the artistry, and see the human beings there… so we can have empathy for one another and halt these blatantly bigoted anti-queer, anti-trans legislations.”
Creation of Drag Defense Fund and Solidarity with Writers
In her speech, Jaida Essence Hall mentioned the establishment of the Drag Defense Fund, a collaboration between World of Wonder, MTV, and RuPaul’s Drag Race. Jinkx Monsoon concluded the segment by expressing support for the writers within the Writers Guild of America (WGA) who are currently on strike.
Celebrating a Groundbreaking Season
The triumphant All Stars 7 season captivated audiences and made history, making it the perfect recipient of the coveted Golden Popcorn award.
Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race can look forward to more groundbreaking content, as All Stars 8 is set to premiere on Friday, May 12, on Paramount+.
