TL;DR
- Layla Taylor posted an Instagram video suggesting she is dating a woman.
- She had come out as bisexual on Jay Shetty’s podcast on June 29.
- Taylor’s recent posts have continued to reference her sexuality.
- The story also highlights ongoing stigma around bisexual identity and Mormon teachings on same-sex relationships.
Layla Taylor appears to be entering a new relationship with a woman, one week after publicly coming out as bisexual on a podcast.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast member posted an Instagram video in which she is seen holding hands with another woman who remains off camera. In text over the clip, Taylor wrote: “You’re glowing recently” thanks I’m dating a woman now. She added a second caption: “Chivalry isn’t dead it’s w the lesbians.”
Taylor first identified her sexuality in the June 29 episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose. “I'm gay and I'm bi and date women and men,” she said on the show, according to Out.
In the interview, Taylor said she had known she was attracted to women “since I was little,” but had spent years unsure how to talk about it publicly. She also said that a breakup earlier this year helped her focus more on herself.
“I went through a breakup at the beginning of this year, and I feel like for just a long period of my life, I was constantly living my life for other people,” Taylor said. “I think honestly that breakup was like a blessing in disguise because I feel like now I’ve been fully able to just focus on Layla.”
Taylor shares two sons, Oliver and Maxwell, with her ex, Clayton Wessel. People reported that the couple was married from 2020 to 2025.
After that marriage ended, Taylor dated Mormon Wives costar Cameron Jolly, who appeared on the second season of the Hulu series. She later dated Mason McWhorter from July 2025 to this past February. McWhorter is the brother of costar Miranda Hope’s ex-husband, Chase McWhorter.
Taylor’s posts this week have continued to nod to her sexuality. On June 30, she shared a lip-sync video with the caption, “Signs were out but I was not.” Last Friday, she posted herself dancing to the song Dance If You Gay Bruce and wrote: “‘She’s going to make it her whole personality’ here’s another post just to rage bait ppl hehe and after being closeted my whole life…yes yes I will 🙂↕️🤍”
Her coming out arrives amid broader scrutiny of bisexual visibility. As The Advocate reported in 2023, bisexual people make up more than 50 percent of those who identify as LGBTQ+, though many still face stigma and skepticism about their sexuality.
The Human Rights Campaign has said the official LDS position distinguishes between same-sex attraction and acting on it. Under that framework, bisexual members can remain full participants and hold temple recommends only if they practice strict heterosexuality in their dating, marriage and romantic lives. Same-sex relationships violate the law of chastity and can lead to church discipline.
