Acclaimed Australian filmmaker Goran Stolevski’s latest work, ‘Of An Age,’ is set to make its debut on Prime Video in Australia on Tuesday, October 24th. The film has garnered significant attention and rave reviews since its initial release earlier this year. Starring Elias Anton and Thom Green, ‘Of An Age’ weaves a touching tale of a brief yet intense romance between two young men in Melbourne during the summer of 1999.
The story unfolds as Serbian-born ballroom dancer Nikola, portrayed by Elias Anton, receives an urgent call on the day of a major dance competition. The caller is none other than his dance partner, Ebony, played by Hattie Hook, who is in need of rescue from an unknown location after a wild night out. To come to her aid, Nikola must enlist the help of Ebony’s older brother, Adam, portrayed by Thom Green, who happens to have a car. As the two young men embark on a journey across the suburbs of Melbourne, they discover a mutual spark and shared interests.
Director Goran Stolevski shared that ‘Of An Age’ was inspired by his own memories of the era and location, highlighting the unique sense of isolation that characterized the late 1990s for LGBTQ individuals. “1999 was before the internet, so if you were a queer kid from a certain socioeconomic stratum like Melbourne, there was a special kind of isolation,” Goran explained. “You didn’t know other queer kids. Now you can use technology to find out about yourself and connect to others. I was really interested in what that did—and not only in a negative way. There was a poignancy to not being able to go online. You developed a different capacity for connecting to someone in an immediate way.”
‘Of An Age’ serves as a poignant exploration of the emotions and connections that defined that era, offering viewers a captivating narrative that transcends time and place. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch this beautifully crafted Australian film as it arrives on Prime Video on October 24th.
