Lincoln, a city with a long history of embracing diversity, recently witnessed a jubilant congregation as thousands of individuals flocked to partake in its annual LGBTQ+ Pride event. The festivities commenced with a spirited parade, commencing at the Guildhall and Stonebow at 11:30 BST. This exuberant procession traversed the city’s heart, culminating at the Tentercroft Street car park. The event’s focal point was an eclectic series of stage performances, headlined by renowned names such as the electronic dance ensemble Phats and Small, and the esteemed victor of X Factor, Louisa Johnson.
Organized by the Lincoln Pride Committee, this year’s event showcased a rich tapestry of entertainment, set to dazzle the anticipated 7,000-strong audience. Arran Hart, a representative of the committee, enthused about the offerings: “Our main stage boasts a diverse lineup, ranging from local talents like the Scene Queens and Jenna G, to the electrifying presence of our X Factor champion. Complementing these performances are our vibrant market stalls, a family-oriented zone, and a delectable array of gastronomic delights.”
A notable addition to the city’s landscape, the Pride benches, has been unveiled in the city center after a decade-long endeavor. Despite some recent vandalism, prompt restoration efforts have ensured their resplendent appearance in time for the event. Lincolnshire Police actively participated, adorning rainbow insignia on their uniforms to symbolize unity. Ch Supt Kate Anderson highlighted the significance of Lincoln Pride as an opportunity for the police force to engage with local communities and enhance their service.
While last year’s event saw officers join in an unexpected dance, this year’s commitment reflects a dedication to interact with attendees and foster a safe, enjoyable environment. Lincoln’s annual LGBTQ+ Pride gathering not only highlights the city’s commitment to inclusivity but also underscores its enduring celebration of diversity and acceptance.
