The Welsh singer, whose most recognisable hit was “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” was confirmed dead in a message from her family and team that said she “unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”
The statement added: “We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”
Tyler had been facing health problems in recent months. In May, she was placed in an induced coma after emergency surgery in Portugal. She woke up from the coma in June, but a spokesperson later said she was still “very unwell and in intensive care”.
