In the latest issue of “Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty,” fans are reintroduced to Aaron Fischer, also known as the Captain America of the Railways. Fischer, an openly gay character, was originally introduced in the 2021 series “United States of Captain America,” which featured everyday people taking on the mantle of Captain America to defend their communities. Fischer’s story saw him riding the rails with his boyfriend to protect runaways, as he had been when his father rejected him for being gay.

Happy United States of Captain America Day! It's been a journey to get to this point, but today Aaron Fischer makes his official Marvel debut.

I'm SO proud of the character, and I hope you enjoy his first appearance. Here's hoping for many more appearances in the future! ❤️🏳️‍🌈💙 pic.twitter.com/PjUYukO4cJ

In “Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8,” Fischer helps Steve Rogers and his friends regain their memories and reunite after getting scattered across the country. While it remains to be seen how long Fischer will remain in the series, co-creator Josh Trujillo has hinted at the possibility of more appearances from the character in the future.

“It’s amazing, the positive feedback that I’ve gotten for advocating for that community because people want to see themselves in popular media,” Trujillo said of introducing an LGBTQ+ character to the series. “For me, it’s always important to find something from the real world, find a social issue or find something that we can talk about in addition to having silly superhero fun.”

“Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8” will be available on January 4.

TAGGED: Aaron Fischer, Avengers, Captain America, Comics, DC, LGBTQ+ representation, Marvel Comics, Sentinel of Liberty, Steve Rogers
