To kick off the opening night of WorldPride 2023, the Sydney Opera House was lit up in the colors of the Pride Progress Flag. With an expected attendance of more than 78,000 visitors, the festival celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and its associated issues. As part of the Rainbow City activation, 45 public art pieces will be installed throughout the city, including rainbows at Bondi Beach, Coogee Beach, and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The event, which will feature performances from Kylie Minogue and Nicole Scherzinger, will be hosted by Courtney Act and Casey Donovan, and broadcast nationally on ABC TV. Scherzinger is set to headline the Bondi Beach Party on March 4th, where 12,000 people will take to the beach for one day.
Speaking ahead of the festivities, Sydney WorldPride CEO Kate Wickett said the event is “about bringing a multiplicity of voices together from across the world and both celebrating and advocating.” The 17-day-long celebration will see advocates, artists, and community members from around the world come together to address issues and challenges that the LGBTQ+ community faces.
