Cornwall Pride organizers took their message of “solidarity” to the streets last Saturday, as a team of volunteers and entertainers travelled around the county in a pop-up Pride bus. The tour visited Penryn, Helston, and Wadebridge in a bid to reach out to rural areas and engage with communities beyond the traditional city centers. According to Matthew Kenworthy Gomez from Cornwall Pride, the pop-up tour has been designed to allow people to engage with the Pride message and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in their own areas.
Speaking about the tour, Mr. Kenworthy Gomez said, “This is our opportunity to come together to live, laugh, celebrate, and bring a very real stand in solidarity for all marginalized people in our community and bring all communities together within our LGBTQ+ community and beyond.” The bus team is due to visit further towns, including Camelford, Launceston, Callington, Torpoint, Looe, Liskeard, Lostwithiel, and St Blazey, on February 25th.
The pop-up tour has been welcomed by local residents and businesses, with many praising the organizers for their efforts in bringing Pride to their communities. Speaking to local media, Mr. Kenworthy Gomez said, “Sometimes it’s very difficult for people to leave their locations and have that interaction.” By bringing Pride to the people, the organizers hope to increase engagement with marginalized communities and promote the message of inclusivity and acceptance.
As the tour continues, Cornwall Pride organizers are calling on everyone to get involved and show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. With events like the pop-up tour, Pride is becoming increasingly visible across the UK, and it is hoped that such initiatives will lead to greater acceptance and support for LGBTQ+ people in all parts of the country.
