In a candid conversation with Entertainment Tonight, the renowned entertainer Wayne Brady, at the age of 51, spoke openly about the transformative effects of coming out as pansexual and the profound changes this revelation has ushered into his life.
Discovering Liberation in Authenticity
Brady, a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, revealed that despite not yet venturing into the dating scene since his coming out, the act of sharing his pansexuality has significantly alleviated certain anxieties. He expressed, “It would be hard for me to truly put myself 100 percent into a relationship when there’s this nagging doubt that I have not explored that piece of me, or even given voice to having that option. If I go into a relationship, whomever I’m in a relationship with knows me 100 percent.”
The Quest to Articulate Identity
For Brady, there had always been an elusive aspect of his identity that he struggled to articulate. He confessed, “I couldn’t verbalize [coming out] ’cause I couldn’t lock on to it. I’m not hiding anything now, so now I can approach you in a way that I never have.”
Embracing Diverse Romantic Possibilities
With newfound freedom to express his pansexuality, Brady is now open to exploring diverse romantic possibilities. He emphasized, “I’m not saying that I am going to be in a relationship with another man. I’m saying it is very possible for me to be attracted to a man because of the person. I can be attracted to this beautiful woman because of the person. But then again, that may be a non-binary person that might go, ‘Oh, I’m attracted to you. I’m attracted to this trans person.'”
A Message of Support and Solidarity
While Brady may not be ready to enter the dating pool just yet, he is eager to extend more authentic support to the LGBTQ+ community. He passionately stated, “Every single person should be able to be whatever your truth is. I have so many of my family and friends who are gay, who are lesbian, my nieces who are trans, they walk outside every day, and they live their real truth unadulterated, walking in nothing but the armor of love and themselves. Those are the brave ones. So when I look at them and I go, ‘Man, if by me just speaking my truth… that can help in any way, shape or form, then I’m mad I didn’t do it earlier.'”
In sharing his journey, Wayne Brady not only liberates himself but also stands as a beacon of authenticity and support within the LGBTQ+ community, inspiring others to embrace their true selves without reservation.
